Michael F. Kutka, MD

Michael Kutka, MADr. Kutka was born in Manhattan and spent his formative years in New York and Connecticut. At an early age, Dr. Kutka was interested in medicine and spent his high school years as a volunteer at his local hospital. While in college he continued his hospital affiliation as a Microbiology Laboratory Technologist.

Following graduation from Manhattanville College in Westchester, NY, Dr. Kutka traveled to Ireland. While living in his ancestral home he studied medicine at the Royal College of Surgeons. Many people have inquired as to his choice of Ireland for his Medical training. This choice was natural for him. His maternal grandparents are from Ireland and growing up he was always exposed to his “Irish Roots!” His family ties in Ireland continue to be close ones.

Dr. Kutka returned to the United States to begin his postgraduate training at Johns Hopkins Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland. His time was spent in General Surgery and in research involving minimally invasive surgery (endoscopic surgery). Dr. Kutka has published many articles on minimally invasive surgery. The next portion of Dr. Kutka's training was in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where he completed his General Surgery training at the Medical College of Wisconsin.

Dr. Kutka's final training destination was Nashville, Tennessee where he completed his Plastic Surgery Fellowship at Vanderbilt University. It was in Nashville that Dr. Kutka was able to participate in all facets of Plastic Surgery. Reconstructive surgery is his first love, but he also worked with prominent local private plastic surgeons and developed an appreciation for and training in all aspects of cosmetic surgery.

At Riversong plastic Surgery Dr. Kutka will apply his knowledge and talent in restorative surgery for the benefit of his patients. His particular interest is in rhinoplasty, liposuction, all forms of breast surgery and peripheral nerve surgery.

The recent addition of peripheral nerve surgery is to fill a need in the diabetic neuropathy population. More than 50% of all diabetic patients will develop lower extremity peripheral neuropathy. Neuropathy includes any sensation from chronic burning to sharp pain as well as numbness of the feet and legs. The development of numb feet can lead to balance problems and wounds on the feet. These symptoms impact adversely on the individual's ability to pursue life interests, jobs and family roles. The ability, through surgery, to reverse this process is one that can be very rewarding to the patient and surgeon alike. Dr. Kutka has special training in this area of peripheral nerve surgery.

Dr. Kutka would be pleased to discuss any questions you might have regarding restorative or cosmetic surgery. His assistants at Riversong Plastic Surgery are very helpful and would be happy to schedule a consultation.
