Non-Surgical Body Contouring technologies: truSculpt iD
Nonsurgical body contouring with TruSculpt iD by Cutera is an innovative RF (radiofrequency energy) device that delivers heat beneath the skin to eliminate fat cells for noninvasive fat reduction, in addition, the heat helps to contract the overlying skin in the treated areas. Newburyport, MA board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Michele Sasmor uses this body sculpting/contouring procedure to help North Shore area patients achieve the physique they desire without undergoing surgery. In the process, TruSculpt may also reduce the appearance of cellulite. It is designed to treat almost any area of the body, including the abdomen, flanks, thighs, buttocks, arms, upper back bra area and the area of fat above the breasts at the axilla area, and other stubborn regions where fat lingers. TruSculpt iD is comfortable and requires no anesthetic. Most patients describe the treatment as feeling like a hot stone massage and others report almost no sensation of heat at all. This procedure has earned the nickname Lunchtime Skinny, thanks to its short procedure time of around 15 minutes. Patients can easily resume normal daily activity after their treatment. Ideal Candidates for truSculpt iD
Because TruSculpt only heats the adipose tissue and skin, the surrounding skin remains safe. This makes the procedure safe for nearly all skin types. In addition, patients that have had hernias repaired are able to have this treatments. Patients with pacemakers or defibrillators, benign or malignant tumors, or metal implants near the treatment area should not have the procedure performed. The ideal candidate is close to his or her target weight with a BMI in the healthy range.
During a typical treatment, the Cutera TruSculpt handpiece (which releases radiofrequency energy) is placed over the targeted area. The energy released causes fat cells to heat up and liquefy, later being passed out of the body through the natural lymphatic process. TruSculpt also causes moderate skin contraction to help contour the body for a slimming and smoothing effect on the skin. There is no downtime following this treatment, meaning you can return to your normal activities immediately. Patients will see significant improvement in approximately 8 weeks post-treatment with peak results appearing at around 3 months. Additional sessions can be scheduled, depending on the aesthetic goals of the patient.
What to Expect
The TruSculpt iD system is designed to provide an easy and relaxed procedure for noninvasive fat removal and body sculpting/contouring. The small issues that can arise include redness, and mild tenderness in the treated areas. This may last up to a full day, depending on your skin type. Bruising in the treatment area does occur but very rarely. Usually, most of the side effects resolve in an hour.
A unique advantage of the TruSculpt iD is that it is well documented to help tighten lax skin because of the radiofrequency energy. RF has been used for many years as an energy source for tightening facial skin. Modifying how the energy is delivered by TruSculpt iD lets the device decrease fat and tighten the skin at the same time.
