About Radiesse

Today, there are multiple dermal fillers on the market to choose from to achieve a more youthful, refreshed appearance. The Radiesse injectable, offered by our talented North Shore aesthetician is great for addressing age-related volume loss in the face and the hands. Women and men who might not have a lot of time for repeat appointments appreciate the long-lasting results (generally one year) of Radiesse. Using calcium hydroxyapatite microspheres in a water-based gel, this injectable plumps and softens the look of your skin without the time and expense of surgery. Radiesse has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to safely and effectively contour your facial features. It can be used in tandem with other injectables (wrinkle relaxers and fillers) for a unique procedure plan that restores your skin. Look refreshed and boost your confidence with Radiesse injectable volume treatments at RiverSong Plastic Surgery in Newburyport, MA.

Ideal Candidates

Women and men who are in good health and want to correct their mild to moderate volume loss are ideal candidates for Radiesse injectable treatments. It can improve cheek volume, smile lines, marionette lines, pre-jowl folds, chin wrinkles, and lines on the edges of the mouth. Radiesse is also designed to treat age-related volume loss in the hands to help them appear fuller and younger looking. You should not have this injection if you are allergic to lidocaine or any ingredients in the product. Make sure to inform our aesthetician about any allergies (severe or not) and any relevant medical history. If you are breastfeeding, pregnant, may be pregnant, or are considering pregnancy within 1 – 2 years, you should not use Radiesse treatments.

Procedure Technique

Radiesse injections are administered in one of the treatment rooms at RiverSong Plastic Surgery, generally taking about 30 minutes. Injections can be done at the time of a consultation. To start the procedure, you will sit comfortably while the areas of injection are cleaned and marked. Most patients feel tolerable discomfort during their treatment at the initial insertion, but if preferred, a local anesthetic can be used on the injection sites. The dosage of Radiesse, determined at your personalized treatment planning session, will be prepared in an ultra-fine syringe. The marked injection sites will help the injector to carefully administer Radiesse into the needed areas. As soon as the procedure is done, a cold compress will be applied to help reduce swelling and bruising.

What to Expect

After your Radiesse injection, you may see mild redness, swelling, and bruising. This is rare, but can occur, and should resolve over  5 – 7 days. These side effects can usually be camouflaged with makeup. If the side effects last longer or seem excessive, please do not hesitate to call RiverSong Plastic Surgery. Most patients see results minutes after the treatment with better results developing over time. Your face should appear younger, softer, and lifted. The effects of Radiesse tend to last about 1 year. You should speak with our aesthetician (during your consultation) about when to schedule your next treatment to maintain your results.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does Radiesse cost?
The cost of Radiesse is dependent on the number of syringes needed to achieve your desired outcome. During your consultation at our practice, we will discuss your expected results and determine the amount needed to achieve them. We will also discuss your out-of-pocket costs for your treatment.

How does Radiesse compare to other fillers?
Fillers, such as Radiesse, are considered temporary, even though the results may last up to a full year. Common filler procedures include collagen, calcium hydroxyapatite, hyaluronic acid, polylactic acid, and the heaviest of the fillers, PMMA. Radiesse is the only dermal filler composed of calcium-based microspheres, which are comparable to hyaluronic acid injectable fillers due to the natural ability to stimulate collagen production. During your consultation, we will discuss the various fillers and evaluate your facial tone, laxity, and volume levels to help you decide which filler may be the best choice for you.

What are the possible side effects of Radiesse?
Severe and/or abnormal side effects are rare with Radiesse. Immediately following treatment, patients may experience mild redness, bruising, numbness, and/or itching. These are temporary side effects that usually disappear within a day or two.

What other procedures can I combine with Radiesse?
Radiesse injections can be performed in combination with other injectable treatments to help you achieve your ideal results. Many patients combine dermal fillers, such as Radiesse, with BOTOX or other muscle relaxants to create an overall younger-looking appearance. Talk to your injector during your consultation to learn more about other procedures that can be combined with Radiesse.

Are Radiesse injections painful?
Typically, patients do not need any form of numbing prior to their injection treatment. However, a local anesthetic can be provided if you are worried about any discomfort. Most patients only experience slight discomfort during the actual injections.
